Selection aids
In addition to the search, our clients can also take advantage of our many years of experience in the selection process, if they so wish.
There is no one procedure that can determine beyond doubt whether a future employee will fulfil your expectations in every respect. In recent years, however, occupational psychologists and economic practitioners have collaborated to develop methods that have become significant aids in the candidate selection process.
Two-step interviews according to Nevo & Berman
Behavioural scientists Baruch Nevo and Jeffrey A. Berman from the Curtin University of Technology conducted intensive research projects in which they analysed the interview techniques used in recruitment interviews. They came to the conclusion that the most successful approach is a mixture of structured and unstructured interview phases. These findings led them to develop the Two-Step procedure, which ACCA Consulting has adopted and adapted to suit European processes. An interview generally lasts about 90 minutes.
Personality profile according to Margerison & McCann
Based on the teachings of C.G. Jung, the two American psychologists Charles Margerison and Dick McCann conducted empirical research to develop a test procedure which has been used in the commercial world for many years with considerable success. This short test indicates possible behavioural patterns and the roles candidates will play within a team. In practice, the multi-page assessment has proved to be very helpful in the preparation of candidate interviews, as it raises direct questions relating to a person's method of working.
Individual assessment
Individual assessments have been used for many years in internal and external recruitment by almost all major companies, with considerable success. These assessments form the basis for an objective and accurate evaluation of a candidate's potential. The profile of strengths and weaknesses that is obtained through this procedure provides concrete recommendations which help in the decision-making process when filling a vacant position.
Depending on the position to be filled, I would advise you to use one of the following procedures, which are conducted by MPW, an institute which specialises in selection assessments and with which I have a long and close association:
- Simple managerial tasks: Brief assessment (5 hours)
- Managerial and project management functions: Standard assessment (7 hours)
- Managerial functions with a strategic focus: Management assessment (8–9 hours)
- High-level managerial tasks: Executive assessment (10–12 hours)
